What is a physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists work with a variety of patients experiencing different situations, including disabled children and adults, women during/after giving birth, athletes, patients in hospital or people recovering from an accident, injury or illness. Responsibilities include developing rehabilitation programmes including physical exercise sessions, massages, electrotherapy/ultrasounds, writing reports and liaising with other healthcare professionals.

Physiotherapist job requirements

  • Physiotherapy degree approved by the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC)

  • Full registration with the HCPC

  • Good physical health and fitness, including the ability to demonstrate or provide training on recommended exercise programmes

  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to work with patients both one-on-one as well as within a wider team environment
