What is a 111 clinical advisor?

111 clinical advisors are sought by the NHS to help assess the health and clinical needs of patients who call the emergency services. Working in a contact centre, 111 clinical advisors use their clinical judgement and expertise to assess patients, providing health information, guidance and advice to patients managing symptoms at home or escalating cases to 999 services.

111 clinical advisor job requirements

  • Active registration with the relevant regulator, e.g. a registered nurse, paramedic or other

  • Clinical and problem-solving experience

  • A calm demeanour and ability to handle high pressure situations and environments

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work with a team and one-on-one with patients in a remote setting
