Working with patients and understanding their lifestyles, occupational therapists support a patient’s wellbeing by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating treatment plans, setting realistic goals and measuring/monitoring outcomes.
Occupational therapist job requirements
Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Completion of an occupational therapy programme at undergraduate or postgraduate level
Effective verbal and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage often high-volume work or case loads
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
The ability to work one-on-one with patients and as part of a wider team (e.g. doctors or social workers)
Empathy, compassion and patience to deal with often distressing situations
